Jack

Wellington Tutor

Jack is currently studying towards a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Environmental Science, Physical Geography and Statistics. Jack finds the contemporary challenges associated with climate change and the environment very engaging and loves encouraging others to think about how they might improve the world around them.

Jack is passionate about science, statistics and literacy subjects as he believes that to be drivers of change in the world, one needs a strong scientific understanding and the ability to fluently communicate it. Jack is able to tutor chemistry, physics, statistics, calculus, English and geography. Jack enjoys one-on-one tutoring because as a tutor he can take the time to understand the student and what motivates them, inside and outside of the classroom.

Understanding this means that teaching methods can be targeted towards what works for the specific student, rather than the one-size-fits-all approach commonly used in schools. One-on-one tutoring also provides Jack with a response-based system where he can react and adjust to what is and what isn’t resonating with the student. Jack loves the opportunity to engage students in a holistic model of learning, which emphasizes soft-skills like learning techniques, an awareness of mindset and self-management that complement the content itself. Jack likes to put the content he is teaching into a broader context of personal growth and the student’s own interests.

He likes conveying ideas visually and through an interactive environment where the student is encouraged to offer answers without fear of failure. He also knows the value of reflection, especially when students don’t meet their expectations. Jack has had success helping students who felt disengaged in class to perceive learning as a way to build life skills in the real world.
